Frequently Asked Questions

We still sell textbooks, however the way you buy them in store has changed.

We will now be using "counter service" as the method for purchasing textbooks in store. A student places their order at one counter, the bookstore staff fills the order, then the student picks up their order and proceeds to the checkout line to pay for their items. It's like having your own personal assistant!

You will need a printed copy of your "Course Materials List" available through your MyStudentCenter on the College of Lake County Website.

You will also need a form of payment; Credit or Debit card, Cash, Gift Card, or have Financial Aid funds available in your student account.

If you need to check prices before ordering, please refer to the Textbooks section of our website.

We now carry a large variety of online choices for your textbook needs.
Some titles are available to rent for specific periods of time or purchase for lifetime access.

To learn more, please visit C.L.C's Digital Bookshelf.

Each Campus has its own bookstore.

The Grayslake Campus Bookstore is currently located downstairs (Follow the RED ARROWS) across the hall from Lancer's Deli.

To view a map of where the Campuses are located, click here and scroll to the near bottom of the page.

We accept:

Credit/Debit Cards (Photo I.D. Required)
Financial Aid (Photo I.D. and Student I.D. Number Required)
Personal Checks (Photo I.D. and Student I.D. Number Required)
Gift Cards

Please Note: The last name on the I.D. MUST match the last name on the credit card or check.

There are now two ways to look up this information:

1.You can go to the main bookstore page or click on the Textbooks menu to the left and choose "Get Textbooks".

From there, choose the appropriate semester from the drop down menu.

This will continue to prompt you to select the rest of your course information.

Press the "Add Class" button, to add the course to your list, then select the next course from the drop down menus again.

Once you are done adding classes to your list, press the "Get Books" button.

Here you will be able to view all the store recommended, optional, and required materials for you classes.

2. You may also log into your MyStudentCenter. Once logged in, click "Weekly Schedule" (located under your weekly schedule in the center of the page).

From there select "List View" (above the calendar) and select the current or upcoming term. Click Continue.

Above the list of your enrolled courses, click the link "Bookstore - Course Materials Needed".

This will open another window with the list of books required for you courses.

*Note:If the window does not open, make sure you "allow pop-ups" when prompted. If you continue to have an issues please call the bookstore or college.

There are a number of factors that affect whether or not we will buy back your book and for how much. The main factor is whether we are using it in the upcoming semester or if our wholesaler is buying the book.

There is no difference in buyback price if the book was originally bought new or used.

Books with water damage or stains will not be bought back.

Yes! You can do so online by selecting "Sell Textbooks" under the Textbooks menu on the left side of the page.

You will need an account to log in and check buyback prices, otherwise you may create a new account using your personal or student email.

Please remember, prices offered are subject to change due to the condition of the book and other factors.

We do not accept phone or faxed orders.

Either we have not received the list of books required for your course or the teacher is not requiring any books for their section.

Please contact the publisher that issues the code (i.e. Cengage, Pearson, etc).

If you have any other issues that the publisher cannot help you with, please contact the bookstore directly.

Contact the cashier's office at the Grayslake Campus to pay the balance and release the hold.

If you believe you have returned the rental, please visit the bookstore and we can work with you to resolve this issue.

Please refer to our Textbook Return Policy as the dates for each semester vary.

For classes that start after the final return date listed, you will have 5 business days from the start of your class to return or exchange a book.

Purchasing a rented book, or vice versa, works just like an exchange. Please see the Textbook Return Policy for important dates for exchanges.

Custom textbooks are edited versions for specific College of Lake County courses. Essentially, material has been removed from the textbook that the instructor will not be covering in class.

A custom “bundle” usually consists of the custom textbook and an online access code. Bundles save students money versus the cost of buying the components separately.

Go to the "Home" page or "Get Textbooks" page (located under Textbooks to the left) and choose the appropriate semester. Then select your course from the drop down menus. Select your books and add them to your cart.
